1. Who we are
Chews Wisely is run by [YOUR LEGAL NAME OR COMPANY NAME] (ABN [ABN]). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We aim to handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles, even where the law may not strictly require it of a business our size.
2. What we collect
- Account details: your email address and a password (stored in a protected, scrambled form by our sign-in provider).
- Your acceptance: when you tick “I understand” at signup we keep the date and the version of the terms you accepted, with your account.
- Health and dietary information: the allergies and intolerances you save, and your favourite foods. You choose what to enter. We treat allergies and intolerances as sensitive information.
- Household members (Premium): the first names and the allergies and intolerances you enter for other people, such as family members. Only add information about someone you are entitled to. You can remove a person at any time, and deleting your account removes them all.
- What you do on the site: recipes you favourite or open, your meal plans and ticked ingredients, your preferences (units, currency, weekly email), and your plan and usage counts (for example how many AI questions you have used).
- AI chat: the messages you send the assistant and its replies, which we save so you can see your history. If you ask for a recipe picture, the recipe's title and ingredients are used to create it.
- Optional: a profile picture you upload, and a location you type or allow when using the shop finder.
- Payments: if you subscribe, Stripe collects your card details. We keep only your Stripe customer reference, your plan, its status and renewal date. We never see your card number.
- Basic technical information: a sign-in cookie, and anonymous page-speed measurements (which page, how long it took, whether you were signed in). They do not identify you.
3. Why we use it
- To run the site: filter recipes against your allergies and intolerances, order recipes by what you are likely to enjoy, save your favourites and plans, and answer your questions.
- To provide and manage paid plans, and to send receipts and account emails.
- To send the weekly recipe email, if you have it switched on (you can switch it off in Account settings or with the unsubscribe link).
- To keep the site secure, fix problems and make it faster.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not show advertising.
4. Your health information
Your allergy and intolerance list is used only to filter and rank recipes for you, to help the assistant avoid those foods, and to flag recipes in your plans. You give it to us by entering it, and you can change or remove any item at any time on your profile. Entering it is optional: the site works without it, but the checks will not be personal to you.
5. Who we share information with
We use these service providers, who handle information only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: our database, sign-in and file storage (your account, lists, plans, chat history, profile picture).
- Vercel: hosting the website.
- Stripe: taking payments and sending payment receipts.
- AI providers (Google Gemini, and backups such as Groq, Cerebras and Cloudflare): they receive your chat messages and, so replies avoid your foods, your saved allergies and intolerances; and the title and ingredients of a recipe when a picture is made. We do not send your name or email, or the names of people in your household: only the foods to avoid.
- Resend: sending the weekly recipe email and similar messages to your email address.
- OpenStreetMap-based map services: the place you search for in the shop finder, to find places near you.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others. If the business is ever sold, your information may transfer to the new owner under this policy.
6. Where your information is kept
Our providers store and process information in data centres that may be outside Australia, including in [Singapore and the United States: confirm against your Supabase and Vercel regions]. By using the site you understand your information may be handled overseas. We choose providers that have their own security and privacy commitments, but we cannot control them.
7. Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The anonymous page-speed measurements described above are not used to identify or follow you.
8. How long we keep it, and deleting it
- We keep your information while your account exists.
- You can delete your account at any time in Account settings (“Delete my account”). It cancels any paid plan and permanently removes your profile, allergies, intolerances, favourites, meal plans, chat history, usage records and profile picture. This cannot be undone.
- Records of payments are kept by Stripe and by us for as long as tax and accounting law requires (generally seven years). Copies of deleted data may remain in backups for a short time before they are overwritten.
- Anonymous page-speed measurements are kept for a limited time and do not identify you.
9. Security
We use secure connections, sign-in protection and access rules so that each person can only reach their own information. No system is perfectly secure. Please use a strong, unique password.
10. Your choices and rights
- You can see and change your details, allergies, intolerances and favourites in your profile and Account settings.
- You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by contacting us below.
- If you are not happy with how we handled your information, contact us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
11. Children
The site is not intended for children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes and contact
