Terms of use

Chews Wisely · last updated 19 October 2026

Draft: this page has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer and is not final. Details in [square brackets] still need to be filled in.

1. About these terms

Chews Wisely is run by [YOUR LEGAL NAME OR COMPANY NAME] (ABN [ABN]), referred to as “we” and “us”. By using this website or creating an account you agree to these terms and to our Privacy policy and Refunds and cancellation policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

2. What the site does

Chews Wisely lets you search and browse recipes, tell us the foods you are allergic to or cannot tolerate, and see recipes checked against that list. It also offers saved favourites, a meal planner, an AI cooking assistant, estimated nutrition and cost figures, and a finder that suggests nearby shops that may sell an ingredient.

3. The allergy and intolerance check is a guide, not a guarantee

Please read this section carefully. The check compares the ingredients written in a recipe with the foods you have told us to avoid. It is a tool to help you, not a promise that a recipe is safe for you. In particular:

  • It only reads the ingredient list shown in each recipe. It cannot know about cross-contact, how packaged products were made, changes to a product's recipe, or ingredients hidden inside other ingredients.
  • A recipe's own ingredient list may be incomplete, wrong, or edited from its original source. Some recipes come from third parties and we cannot verify them.
  • The check never replaces your own review of the ingredients. You must always read the full ingredient list yourself.
  • "Matches your profile" means that none of the ingredients we could read matched the foods you saved. It does not mean the recipe is free of those foods or safe to eat.
  • A recipe shown as "unverified" could not be checked properly. Recipes that only trip an intolerance (not an allergy) are still shown, just after the others.
  • Substitution tips, AI suggestions and AI-written recipes can be wrong. They are checked in the same way, with the same limits.
  • Nutrition numbers, health scores and cost figures are estimates, often produced by AI, and may be inaccurate.
  • Recipe images are illustrative, and many are created with AI. They may not match the finished dish exactly.

You must review the full ingredient list of every recipe yourself, and decide for yourself whether each ingredient is suitable for you, before you cook or eat anything. You must also check the labels of every product you use. Do not rely on this site as the only safeguard. If you have a serious allergy, speak to your doctor or allergist about how to manage it. In an emergency, call 000 (or your local emergency number) straight away.

4. Not medical advice

Nothing on the site is medical, dietary or nutritional advice, and it does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. Always talk to a qualified health professional about your own needs.

5. Your account

  • You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission.
  • Give us accurate information, keep your password safe, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • The accuracy of your allergy and intolerance list is your responsibility. If it is wrong or out of date, the check will be too.
  • Household profiles (Premium): if you add other people, such as family members or children, you confirm that you are entitled to give us their information and to make dietary decisions for them. You are responsible for the accuracy of their lists, and the duty in section 3 to review every recipe's ingredients yourself applies to everyone you plan or cook for. You can remove a person, and their information, at any time.
  • You can delete your account at any time from Account settings (see section 12).

6. Plans and payments

  • There is a free account and paid plans (currently called Essential and Premium). What each plan includes, such as how many recipes you can open, how many AI questions you get, and whether nutrition details and the shop finder are included, is shown on our plans page and can change.
  • Prices are shown and charged in Australian dollars. No GST is charged: the price shown is the exact amount you pay. Payments are taken by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
  • A paid plan renews every month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from Manage subscription on the plans page.
  • We may change prices or what a plan includes. We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before a change affects your next payment, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
  • See our Refunds and cancellation policy for how cancellations and refunds work.

7. AI features

The assistant, AI-written recipes and AI-generated pictures are produced by third-party AI services. They can make mistakes. Recipe pictures are illustrations, many made with AI, and are not photos of the actual dish. Your messages and, so that the assistant avoids your foods, your saved allergies and intolerances are sent to those services (see our Privacy policy). Please do not put other sensitive information into the chat. AI use is limited by plan. “Adapt this recipe” (Premium) asks an AI to rewrite a recipe without the foods on your lists. The result is only a suggestion: it may contain mistakes or still include a food you avoid, it goes through the same limited check, and you must review its ingredients yourself before you cook it.

8. Recipes, photos and other content

  • Recipes come from our own authors and from open sources, including TheMealDB and the Wikibooks Cookbook (shared under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence). Each recipe shows its source, and photos show their credit where one is required. Recipes we adapt are marked as modified.
  • Where content comes from an open licence, your use of that content is covered by that licence. Everything else on the site, including our own recipes, design, software and the way the site is put together, belongs to us or our licensors.
  • You may use the site for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, scrape, republish or resell the site's content in bulk without our written permission.
  • What you add (your allergy list, favourites, meal plans and chat messages) stays yours. You give us permission to store and use it to run the service for you.

9. Using the site properly

You agree not to:

  • use the site for anything unlawful, or to harass or harm anyone;
  • attempt to break, overload or probe the site, or get around its limits (including by sharing an account);
  • use automated tools to copy or collect content from the site;
  • reverse engineer the site or interfere with other people's use of it.

10. Other websites and shops

The shop finder and some links lead to websites we do not control. Whether a shop stocks an ingredient, and at what price, can be wrong or out of date. We are not responsible for other websites.

11. Availability and changes

We try to keep the site running but we do not promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change, suspend or remove features, including free features, from time to time.

12. Ending your account

You can delete your account in Account settings. Deleting it cancels any paid plan straight away and permanently removes the information described in our Privacy policy. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Sections that are meant to continue (such as sections 3, 4, 13 and 15) continue after your account ends.

13. Our responsibility to you

Your rights under Australian law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right, remedy or guarantee you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Subject to that, and to the maximum extent the law allows:

  • the site and its content are provided "as is". We do not promise that recipes, ingredient lists, allergy checks, nutrition or cost figures, shop information or AI content are accurate, complete or suitable for you;
  • we are not liable for loss or harm that results from relying on the allergy and intolerance check, or on any recipe or AI content, without checking the ingredients and labels yourself as section 3 asks;
  • we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, data or opportunity;
  • where the law allows us to limit our liability for a breach of a guarantee that cannot be excluded, we limit it, at our choice, to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again; and
  • our total liability to you for all claims about the site is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or A$100 if you have not paid us anything).

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

14. Privacy

How we handle your personal information, including health information such as your allergies, is explained in our Privacy policy.

15. Changes, law and contact

  • We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you by email or on the site. Using the site after a change means you accept it.
  • These terms are governed by the laws of [STATE OR TERRITORY, e.g. New South Wales], Australia, and the courts of that place have jurisdiction, subject to any rights you have that cannot be excluded.
  • If you have a problem, please contact us first so we can try to fix it.
